Mosquitos and Miles Davis

Took the motorbike down the coast today with my grandson. We stopped at a little roadside spot near the water for lunch and ended up ordering both pizza and pad thai. Mosquitos everywhere. Plastic tables. A fan barely moving the hot air around. But an older woman was cooking everything from scratch right in front of us, and somehow that made the whole place feel perfect.
Over lunch we started talking about music. I asked him what he'd been listening to lately and he surprised me by bringing up Sketches of Spain by Miles Davis. He's only 10, so hearing him talk about that album and what he liked about it caught me completely off guard.
Made me realize these are probably the moments people remember later on. Riding along the coast. Talking about music over lunch. Eating good food while getting eaten alive by mosquitos. Nothing fancy. Just time spent together at the right pace.
I hope he remembers these days when he's older.
